The Philip C. Chin Commons, located in the Transbay / East Cut neighborhood, anchors the corner of Folsom and Beale in San Francisco’s downtown, just one block from Salesforce Park and the Transbay Terminal and two blocks from the Embarcadero. The nine-story building will provide affordable homes—in studios and one-bedroom units—for seniors, have private residential stoops, and feature retail and community spaces on the ground floor. A sixth-floor roof deck set off the community room will allow residents to gather or simply enjoy a view of the adjacent park.

This senior building is being developed concurrently with a 100% affordable family housing project on the same block. The two buildings share a mews space that encourages intergenerational gatherings and co-mingling.

KMA is working in association with Mithun. The Chinatown Community Development Center, with the Office of Community Investment and Infrastructure, is developing the project. Transbay 2 will provide much-needed affordable housing in this critical area of the city. A portion of the units are set aside for formerly homeless seniors.
