Infusing a San Francisco home with livability and delight.

KMA remodeled this single-family residence and expanded into the unfinished space at the lower level to better support contemporary family living. The project focused on reorganizing the interior layout to create more open, functional and connected living spaces while unlocking underutilized areas of the house and bringing in as much natural light as possible.

A new open stair was introduced to connect the two levels, enhancing visual and spatial continuity throughout the home. This new stair, visible when you walk in the front door, has a large oval skylight above bringing an abundance of natural light into the home at both levels while setting the scene for a playful/graceful remodel.

The kitchen, primary suite, 2 bedrooms, and second bath on the main level were reimagined. The lower level has a new family room, a bathroom, a laundry room and two more bedrooms that open out to the rear yard.

The result is a refreshed family home with expanded livable space, improved circulation, bringing more light and openness to everyday family life while introducing delight through color, material and playful form.
