Making the move to preserve a piece of San Francisco history.

The Englander House is a 140-year-old grand Italianate Victorian home that had, until recently, been situated on a large site at 807 Franklin Street. After years of planning and coordination with more than a dozen city entities, the 80-ton house was moved to a new location seven blocks away; the event was attended by hundreds of onlookers. The Englander House is now situated at 635 Fulton Street, next to a Victorian-era building that was formerly a mortuary. Both buildings have been rehabilitated to create 17 new apartments. The cleared 807 Franklin site will be developed into an eight-story building providing 48 new units of rental housing.
