Affordable living and community space at Hunters Point.

KMA is Associate Architect for a 100% affordable major new housing development at Hunters Point. The project will provide 112 units of residential rental housing within two buildings.

With community spaces critical to the project’s success, the design includes ample exterior courtyards and decks, and community gathering spaces. KMA is working closely with Mithun’s landscape architecture team to create usable outdoor spaces with amenities for families and children, including play structures and landscaped courtyards. Another important element of the project is connecting the neighborhood with downtown San Francisco. Laying out the building’s form to take advantage of views of downtown will create a visual connection for Hunters Point residents.

KMA is working with design architects Mithun/Solomon as an integrated team on all aspects of the project. The project also involves working with McCormack Baron Salazar in partnership with Bayview Senior Services and the Bayview Hunters Point Citizen Advisory Committee. With the project now in Design Development, KMA has been able to bring to the design team our knowledge of working with San Francisco city departments and with close urban infill sites.

Affordable housing in a central San Francisco neighborhood

The eight new Habitat for Humanity townhouses will be 100% affordable and available to low income families who invest significant sweat equity constructing their own homes under the Habitat model. KMA is donating a significant proportion of our services, providing design and construction documents, facilitating permitting, and partnering with other like-minded consultants. In partnership with Habitat construction management staff, the design aims for functionality, simplicity of construction, durability of systems and materials, and low maintenance.
